Eight Advisory pursues its expansion with the launch of a new practice: “Economic and Regulatory Advisory”
Eight Advisory, Europe's leading independent advisory firm specialising in transactions, restructuring and transformation, is continuing its expansion with the launch of an "Economic and Regulatory Advisory" practice. In parallel with its international and regional development, Eight Advisory continues to expand its range of consulting services for corporate clients and their advisors
Étienne Chantrel joins the firm as Partner-in-charge of developing this new activity. As a graduate of the prestigious École Normale Supérieure (ENS), Institut d’Etudes Politiques (IEP) in Paris and École nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration économique (ENSAE), Étienne Chantrel holds a doctorate in economics and also studied economics at the University of Chicago and the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE). While working in the public sector, he acquired recognised expertise in competition economics, notably in his role of adviser on competition issues to the French Minister for the Economy (2014-2016) and during his tenure as head of the mergers unit at the French Competition Authority (Autorité de la concurrence) from February 2017 to March 2024. In this role, he directed a review of all the Competition Authority’s merger and acquisition decisions in recent years.
His team will be staffed solely by economists, with a goal of around ten consultants by the end of 2025. The team will use economic analysis to address any competition-related issues that companies may face. For example, as part of acquisition transactions, it will conduct preliminary strategic analyses and provide analyses during the clearance procedures with competition authorities. It will also be able to assist companies in their competition litigation procedures (linked, for example, to anti-competitive practices); in their applications relating to government aid or by analysing the damaging effects of litigation following convictions for anti-competitive practices. The practice will also intervene in sector-specific investigations or in the analysis of regulatory issues.
This latest offering complements the firm’s existing services, particularly in the area of transactions, and ensures that it can fully meet the needs of corporate clients and their legal advisers.
“By launching this new business offering, Eight Advisory is expanding its range of services to encompass purely economic issues. The Economic and Regulatory Advisory team will be seamlessly interwoven with the firm’s other business practices, enabling us to offer a fully comprehensive service to companies. Eight Advisory is clearly differentiating itself from other consultancies with its tailor-made, integrated approach,” explains Étienne Chantrel, Partner-in-charge of the launch of this new practice at Eight Advisory.
” Étienne will be bringing us his experience and technical expertise to strengthen our ability to support and secure corporate transactions. With his team of dedicated professionals, he will also be able to broaden our sectoral expertise,” says Alexis Karklins-Marchay, Partner-in-charge of the Financial Engineering practice at Eight Advisory.
“We are delighted to welcome Étienne as a Partner at Eight Advisory. The launch of this new practice is further evidence of our desire to offer new, high value-added expertise that complements Eight Advisory’s traditional areas of specialisation. The creation of this new service illustrates our continued commitment towards meeting our clients’ needs”, comments Éric Demuyt, Managing Director at Eight Advisory.
