In the interview, Johannes Steinel reflects on Schirm’s unique position in the chemical industry, highlighting the company’s ability to offer complete, end-to-end solutions, from synthesis and formulation to packaging. This integrated approach, he says, sets Schirm apart from competitors who often specialise in isolated production steps. 

A central pillar of Steinel’s leadership is digitalisation. Schirm is investing in modern analytics, improving customer and supplier interfaces, and implementing sensor-based monitoring along the value chain. These steps aim to boost efficiency and create greater transparency in production.

Steinel explains, referencing the company’s focus on moderate growth and selective partnerships to expand its market presence. 

Sustainability is another top priority. Schirm is actively working to integrate resource-saving methods and environmentally conscious services, aligning its development efforts with customer needs and long-term ecological impact. 

In response to the industry-wide transformation pressure and skilled labour shortage, the company has launched internal initiatives focused on talent retention and training, from dual study programmes to digital learning tools.
