Specialist healthcare networks in France
12 Jul 2023

Since the late 1990s, the field of specialised healthcare has been the scene of significant structural changes. Pricing pressures from the French social security system, increasing demand for care, the growing need for capital associated to technological progress, the Covid-19 pandemic, the return of inflation, among others, have all contributed to an uncertain future for specialist physicians.
In our latest whitepaper, we present Eight Advisory’s view on how these players can respond to such challenges, using clinical testing and medical imaging as models for analysis.
First, we present how and why the clinical laboratory technicians’ and radiologists’ operating model has evolved from small, local, independent businesses to nationwide networks with investors and quasi-industrial practices.
Subsequently, we consider the consequences of the pandemic over the period 2020-2022 on these networks, both short-term i.e. turnover, margins, mergers and acquisitions, as well as medium/long-term i.e. decrease in reimbursements, higher operating costs.
Finally, we look at some of the main challenges facing these networks – financial, cultural, human, and technological ones and ways in which they can be tackled to overcome the current turmoil in the field of medicine.
We hope you find our analysis useful.
