Étienne Chantrel is Partner-in-charge of the Economic and Regulatory Advisory activity. Étienne Chantrel holds a PhD in economics and studied economics at the University of Chicago, the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and Télécom Paristech. He graduated from the prestigious École Normale Supérieure (ENS), Institut d’Études Politiques (IEP) in Paris and École Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Économque (ENSAE).
During his career in the public sector, he acquired a recognised expertise in competition economics, notably in his role of private adviser on competition issues to the French Minister for the Economy (2014-2016) and during his tenure as head of the mergers unit at the French Competition Authority (Autorité de la concurrence) from February 2017 to March 2024.
In this role, he directed the investigation of all the Competition Authority’s merger and acquisition decisions in recent years.
